Repair update for Ocean Ridge Airport 7/17/2023

Although the airport is still closed, we do have some great news! The repairs have commenced! PG&E’s contractors arrived in full force a few weeks back and got right to work.

Asphalt paving should happen in the next couple of weeks if the weather and geology cooperate.

Until then, here are some photos of the work:

First the damaged runway surface was ground up with the native soil below.
It was quite a sight to see the runway look like this.
A caravan of dump trucks arrived to stage piles and piles and piles of base rock.
Lime and water were mixed into the native soil to create a solid base.
Seeing the white surface was reminiscent of the snow we had earlier this year.
At the end of February, we were treated to a rare snowstorm. About 4 inches blanketed the damaged runway.
After the lime treatment was applied, it was compacted and a layer of base rock was spread out.

As always, thanks for your patience while our runway is repaired. We will be sure to post when we have a firm re-opening date.
